April 14, 1629, The Hague, Neth. - d. July 8, 1695, The Hague) Christiaan Huygens (or Christian Huyghens) was a Dutch expert in mathematics, he also an astronomer, and physicist who discovered the wave theory of light, found the real shape of the rings of Saturn, and made original contributions to the science of characteristics - the research of the action of forces on bodies. He was responsible for the useful function of the pendulum as a time controller in clocks.

virtual office jakarta pusat .adv - Huygens was from a rich and prominent middleclass household. His dad, Constantijn Huygens, a diplomat, Latinist, and poet, was the pal and correspondent of numerous impressive intellectual figures of the day, consisting of the scientist and philosopher René Descartes. From an early age, Huygens showed a significant mechanical bent and a talent for drawing and mathematics. A few of his early efforts in geometry pleased Descartes, who was an occasional visitor to the Huygens' home.

In 1645 Huygens entered the University of Leiden, where he studied mathematics and law. Two years later he entered the College of Breda, in the midst of a furious controversy over the approach of Descartes. Although Huygens later turned down specific of the Cartesian tenets including the recognition of extension and body, he constantly affirmed that mechanical explanations were necessary in science, a reality that later on was to have a crucial influence on his mathematical interpretation of both light and gravitation.

In 1655 Huygens for the first time visited Paris, where his recognized parentage, wealth, and affable disposition gave him entry to the highest intellectual and social circles. Throughout his next check out to Paris in 1660, he met Blaise Pascal, with whom he had already been in correspondence on mathematical problems. Huygens had already gotten a European reputation by his publications in mathematics, specifically his De Circuli Magnitudine Inventa of 1654, and by his discovery in 1659 of the true shape of the rings of Saturn-- enabled by the enhancements he had actually introduced in the construction of the telescope with his brand-new approach of grinding and polishing lenses. Using his better telescope, he found a satellite of Saturn in March 1655 and identified the excellent components of the Orion nebula in 1656. His interest, as an astronomer, in the precise measurement of time then led him to his discovery of the pendulum as a regulatory authority of clocks, as explained in his Horologium (1658).

In 1666 Huygens became one of the founding members of the French Academy of Sciences, which granted him a pension larger than that of any other member and an apartment or condo in its building. Apart from occasional sees to Holland, he lived from 1666 to 1681 in Paris, where he made the acquaintance of the German mathematician and theorist Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, with whom he remained on friendly terms for the rest of his life. The significant event of Huygens's years in Paris was the publication in 1673 of his Horologium Oscillatorium. That brilliant work included a theory on the mathematics of curvatures, as well as total solutions to such issues of dynamics as the derivation of the formula for the time of oscillation of the basic pendulum, the oscillation of a body about a stationary axis, and the laws of centrifugal force for uniform circular movement. Some of the outcomes were provided without proof in an appendix, and Huygens's total proofs were not published until after his death.

The treatment of turning bodies was partly based on an ingenious application of the concept that in any system of bodies the centre of gravity could never ever increase of its own accord above its initial position. Earlier Huygens had actually used the exact same principle to the treatment of the problem of crashes, for which he had obtained a definitive solution in the case of completely flexible bodies as early as 1656, although his outcomes continued to be unpublished up until 1669. The somewhat eulogistic dedication of the Horologium Oscillatorium to Louis XIV brought to a head whisperings against Huygens at a time when France was at war with Holland, however in spite of this he continued to live in Paris.

Huygens's health was never ever great, and he suffered from reoccurring diseases, including one in 1670 which was so major that for a time he despaired of his own life. A serious health problem in 1681 prompted him to go back to Holland, where he planned to remain just temporarily. However the death in 1683 of his patron, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, who had been Louis XIV's chief advisor, and Louis's progressively reactionary policy, which culminated in the revocation (1685) of the Edict of Nantes, which had approved specific liberties to Protestants, militated against his ever returning to Paris.

Huygens visited London in 1689 and satisfied Sir Isaac Newton and lectured on his own theory of gravitation prior to the Royal Society. Although he did not participate in public controversy with Newton straight, it is evident from Huygens's correspondence, especially that with Leibniz, that in spite of his generous affection for the mathematical ingenuity of the Principia, he concerned a theory of gravity that was without any mechanical description as essentially unacceptable. His own theory, released in 1690 in his Discours de la cause de la pesanteur ("Discourse on the Cause of Gravity"), though dating at least to 1669, included a mechanical description of gravity based on Cartesian vortices. Huygens's Traité de la Lumière (Treatise on Light), already largely finished by 1678, was likewise published in 1690. In it he once again revealed his requirement for supreme mechanical explanations in his discussion of the nature of light. But his lovely descriptions of reflection and refraction-- far superior to those of Newton-- were totally independent of mechanical descriptions, being based exclusively on the so-called Huygens's concept of secondary wave fronts.

As a mathematician Huygens had terrific talent rather than genius of the first order. He often found trouble in following the innovations of Leibniz and others, but he was admired by Newton because of his love for the old synthetic approaches. For practically the whole of the 18th century his work in both dynamics and light was overshadowed by that of Newton. In gravitation his theory was never taken seriously and continues to be today of historic interest only. However his deal with rotating bodies and his contributions to the theory of light were of lasting importance. Forgotten till the early 19th century, these latter appear today as a few of the most dazzling and original contributions to contemporary science and will constantly be kept in mind by the concept bearing his name.

The last 5 years of Huygens's life were marked by continued illness and increasing sensations of lonelinessand melancholy. He made the last corrections to his will in March 1695 and died after much suffering later on that same year.

source: Britannica

The Adelie Penguin was called in 1840 by French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville who named the Penguin for his better half, Adelie. Adelie Penguins have adapted well to life in the Antarctic as these migratory Birds winter season in the northern pack-ice prior to returning south to the Antarctic coastline for the warmer summer months.

Adelie Penguin Anatomy and Appearance
The Adelie Penguin is one of the most quickly recognizable Penguin types with a blue-black back and totally white chest and belly. The head and beak of the Adelie Penguin are both black, with an unique white ring around each eye. The strong, pink feet of the Adelie Penguin are tough and rough with nails that not only aid the Adelie Penguin in climbing the rocky cliffs to reach its nesting grounds, but likewise help to press them along when they are moving (rowing) along the ice. Adelie Penguins likewise utilize their webbed feet along with their small flippers to propel them along when swimming in the cold waters.

Adelie Penguin Distribution and Habitat
The Adelie Penguin is one of the southern-most Birds on the planet as it is found along the Antarctic coastline and on the islands near it. Throughout the cold weather, the Adelie Penguins move north where they live in large platforms of ice and have better access to food. Throughout the warmer summertime, the Adelie Penguins return south where they moving towards the coastal beaches in search of ice-free ground on the rocky slopes where they can develop their nests. Majority a million Adelie Penguins have formed one of the largest animal nests worldwide on Ross Island, an island formed by the activities of 4 monstrous volcanoes in the Ross Sea.

Adelie Penguin Behaviour and Lifestyle
Like all types of Penguin, the Adelie Penguin is an extremely friendly animal, gathering in huge groups known as colonies, which often number countless Penguin people. Although Adelie Penguins are not known to be terribly territorial, it is not uncommon for adults to become aggressive over nesting sites, and have actually even been known to take rocks from the nests of their neighbours. Adelie Penguins are likewise understood to hunt in groups as it is thought to reduce the risk of being eaten by starving predators. Adelie Penguins are continuously interacting with one another, with body language and specific eye motions believed to be the most typical kinds of interaction.

Adelie Penguin Reproduction and Life Cycles
Adelie Penguins go back to their reproducing premises during the Antarctic summer season of November and December. Their soft feet are well designed for strolling on land making the expedition to it's nesting ground a lot easier as the Penguin fasts throughout this time. Adelie Penguin pairs mate for life in large nests, with females laying 2 eggs a few days apart into a nest built from rocks. Both the male and female take it in turns to breed their eggs while the other goes off to feed, for as much as 10 days at a time. The Adelie Penguin chicks have an egg-tooth which is a bump on the top of their beaks, which helps them to break out of the egg. When hatched, the parents still take it in turns to take care of their young while the other goes off to collect food. After about a month, the chicks congregate in groups called crèches and have the ability to look after themselves at sea when they are between 2 and 3 months old.

Adelie Penguin Diet and Prey
Adelie Penguins are strong and capable swimmers, obtaining all their food from the sea. These Penguins mainly eat krill which are found throughout the Antarctic ocean, along with Molluscs, Squid and little Fish. The record of fossilised eggshell collected in the Adelie Penguin colonies over the last 38,000 years exposes a sudden change from a Fish-based diet plan to Krill that began 2 century ago. This is thought to result from the decline of the Antarctic Fur Seal in the late 1700s and Baleen Whales in the twentieth century. The reduction of competition from these predators has led to there being an abundance of Krill, which the Adelie Penguins are now able to make use of as a much easier source of food.

Adelie Penguin Predators and Threats
lemari asam lokal .adv - Adult Adelie Penguins have no land based predators due to the uncompromising conditions that they inhabit. In the water nevertheless, the biggest threat to the Adelie Penguin is the Leopard Seal, which is one of the southern-most types of Seal and a dominant predator in the Southern Ocean. These Penguins have learnt to avoid these predators by swimming in huge groups and not walking on thin ice. The Killer Whale is the other primary predator of the Adelie Penguin, although they typically hunt larger species of Penguin further north. South Polar Skuas are known to prey on the Adelie Penguin's eggs if left vulnerable, together with chicks that have strayed from a group.

Adelie Penguin Interesting Facts and Features
Adelie Penguins occupy one of the coldest environments on Earth therefore have a thick layer of fat under their skin assisting to keep them warmer. Their feathers assist to insulate them and supply a waterproof layer for extra protection. The Adelie Penguin is a highly effective hunter and is able to eat up to 2kg of food each day, with a breeding colony believed to consume around 9,000 tonnes of food over 24 hours. The flippers of the Adelie Penguin make them great at swimming and they can dive to depths of 175 meters in search of food. Adelie Penguins do not have teeth as such however rather have tooth-shaped barbs on their tongue and on the roof of their mouths. These barbs do not exist for chewing however rather aid the Penguin to swallow slippery victim.

Adelie Penguin Relationship with Humans
A check out to the Adelie Penguin colonies has long since been on the program for travelers to the Antarctic, who admire the huge varieties of them nesting on the beaches and hunting in the surrounding waters. This has actually suggested that Adelie Penguins are one of the most well-known of all Penguin types today. Early explorers nevertheless, also hunted the Penguins both for their meat and their eggs in order to survive in such uncompromising conditions.

Adelie Penguin Conservation Status and Life Today
In spite of having been confined to living on coastal Antarctica, Adelie Penguins are among the most common and prevalent Penguins in the southern hemisphere. With more than 2.5 million breeding pairs found throughout southern Antarctica, the Adelie Penguin has actually adapted well to it's polar environment. Scientists have likewise been understood to use Adelie Penguin nesting patterns as signs of climate change, observing that they are able to nest on beaches that were previously covered in ice. The Adelie Penguin is listed as Least Concern.

source: a-z animals

By the late 1970s she was appearing on stage in sequined dresses that flaunted a brand new pair of breasts and, in 1981, she took a trip abroad for sex reassignment surgical treatment.

She kept both her (male) first name and her popularity, in spite of the ban on transgender home owner performing in public issued by Turkey's repressive military government. After a period of voluntary exile in Germany, Ersoy returned in 1988 when Turkey's law was changed and she was formally recognized as a female.

She's been among the nation's greatest celebrities ever since, starring in motion pictures, hosting her own TV show, looking like a judge on Turkey's Pop Idol, marrying-- and divorcing-- two younger men, having more and more cosmetic surgery, and usually doing everything you 'd expect a diva to do. Her routine of speaking her mind still gets her into problem with the authorities from time to time, but no government has actually yet made the performer nicknamed "Big Sister" keep quiet. After undergoing sex reassignment surgery in 1995, she went back to the game she 'd liked when the world still saw her as a kid. She rapidly rose to the top of the amateur circuit in Australia, however so long as pro golf associations insisted that just ladies who were born ladies could contend-- the "female at birth" guideline-- she couldn't take her skill any even more.

In response, Bagger spent the next few years promoting strongly for the rights of post-transition athletes who, as she pointed out to many an ill-informed critic, were disappointed to have any clear physical benefit over their female-at-birth challengers. Her arguments were convincing and association after association changed their rules (though it would be a while prior to the LPGA amended theirs). The exact same electorate of rural, typically conservative voters would go on to re-elect her two times more.

Beyer resigned from parliament in 2007. Last year she returned to politics as a candidate for the Mana Party in New Zealand's general election. She didn't win a seat, however stays a prominent commentator, particularly on LGBT rights.
